Chelsea, as a club, are going through a phenomenal period. Recently they bagged their second UEFA Champions League trophy by beating Manchester City. They beat the Citizens by 1-0 under the guidance of the new manager Thomas Tuchel.
Now the blues are looking to further strengthen their squad. They want to challenge the Premier League champions Manchester City and other top clubs for the domestic trophy. Chelsea last won the Premier League during the 2016-17 season under Antonio Conte.
Chelsea spent more than £200 million for the new additions last summer. Despite that, the Blues only managed to finish 4th on the table. Perhaps the most concerning area for them is the Forward area. Chelsea have had this problem where they did bring many strikers over the period of time, but none seemed to have worked out for them.
Chelsea interested in Erling Haaland
It is no secret that the Blues have shown interest in the young and sensational Erling Haaland. He is not only admired by Chelsea, but nearly each and every top European club.
According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea are looking to launch a whopping £130 million bid for the Norwegian International. The London based club has had a few bids rejected in the past for Haaland. The bids are said to have been player plus cash deals which Borussia Dortmund rejected.
The 21-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg for a mere £18 million in the January transfer window of 2020. Since joining, in his 18 months’ time at Dortmund, he has scored a phenomenal 57 goals in just 59 matches. He also provided 15 assists.
Last season in the Bundesliga, Haaland managed to find the back of the net nearly 27 times in 28 matches. At the least, Haaland has been going through a whirlwind.
It will not be so easy for Chelsea to land Erling Haaland. Since many top clubs across Europe are having a hard time financially due to the pandemic and match ticket loss. Not many can match Chelsea’s upcoming bid of £130 million. It is an offer even Borussia Dortmund would most likely accept due to the unpredictable times.
Roman Abramovich personally wants the deal to happen
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made it his personal mission to sign Erling Haaland. It is after his green signal that Chelsea will launch a bid of £130 million.
The Russian billionaire has been more than happy with the club after they won their second Champions League trophy in history last season. Now Roman wants to splash the cash so that Chelsea can also focus on becoming the Premier League champions.
He is ready to break his personal promise to land Erling Haaland. After Chelsea failed to land Romelu Lukaku in 2017, who then went to Manchester United. Since then, Roman and Chelsea promised to never engage with Mino Raiola. With their interest in Haaland, Roman is now ready to engage with Mino Raiola for the transfer.
Chelsea want the deal to quickly happen. They understand that many clubs are going to come for Erling Haaland next summer. Many top clubs are waiting for the £64 million release clause in Haaland’s contract that will get activated in the next summer.
