The Blues have reportedly contacted former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri to schedule a meeting in the near future and finalize the deals between club and manager.
Chelsea had a rather disappointing title defense this season as the Blues finished on fifth place on the Premier League table. The West London club did not qualify for the Champions League. And despite winning the FA Cup by beating arch-rivals Manchester United in the final, manager Antonio Conte’s job still seems in jeopardy.
This new manager appointment saga has been dragged on since May. But Chelsea is now in the final few stages of speeding up the process of hiring a replacement for Conte. With the World Cup in progress and the financial barriers that are felt at Stamford Bridge regarding a compensation of £9 million for the sacking of Conte, there was a delay. However, Chelsea seemed to have finally made a decision for ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri’s appointment.
Date- Set- Match?
According to Italian newspapers Corriere Dello Sport, there are reports that that claim Sarri has been called for a meeting with members of the Chelsea hierarchy in the English capital. Should that meeting go well, Sarri could be unveiled as Chelsea boss on Monday itself.
The 59-year-old master tactician is interested to bring some of his former Napoli players to Chelsea. These include Kalidou Koulibaly, Dries Mertens and Gonzalo Higuain. Chelsea are yet to sign anyone in this transfer window because they are ready to sort out their managerial issues before heading into the transfer market.
Chelsea should finish off the pending negotiations and finalize a deal with Sarri as soon as possible because too much of a delay is never good for the fans and players at the club. Confirmation is always better than not knowing the future.
