Chelsea join Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race for a £100 million Premier League star

Chelsea has joined both Real Madrid and Barcelona the race for the Manchester United star, with the Blues looking to bring in reinforcements for next season.

The starlet has struggled since his breakout season for the Manchester giants but this season has seen the youngster struggled with both form and injury issues. Also with Manchester United bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season and Romelu Lukaku, along with Alexis Sanchez in this season, competition has gone up. This has seen Marcus Rashford thinking about a possible move away and with Real Madrid looking for reinforcements and replacements, the 20-year-old has made the shortlist.

However, according to reports from Spanish news outlet Sport [via the Daily Mail], the 20-year-old has emerged as another target for Florentino Perez, as both he and Zinedine Zidane look to re-do their squad for next season. With Real Madrid sitting 15 points off leaders Barcelona, with the Los Blancos far from posing any serious threat to the title race since the start of the season, things need to change next season and Perez has realized that.

Not only have Real Madrid struggled this season, they have also had to watch as their infamous trio of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale fade away, goalless and with serious fitness issues. But while Ronaldo has flourished in 2018, scoring 21 goals since the turn of the year Madrid still need to bring in reinforcements.

However, now with Chelsea also looking to bring in new stars to strengthen their team for next season’s title challenge the Blues have targeted a few Manchester United stars. They’ve been reportedly looking at Anthony Martial as a potential Eden Hazard replacement and now according to reports from the Metro, they’re also looking at Marcus Rashford. However, it further adds that the Premier League giants are looking for a transfer fee well above £100 million for the youngster.

The Red Devils have already started proceedings to open a dialogue about a brand new contract between them and the Marcus Rashford, but things haven’t gone according to plan. This season has seen the 20-year-old struggle to make an impact on the side, especially with the arrivals of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez. Thus, as a result, it has got the English international thinking about his future away from Old Trafford.

Author’s take:

A 2017 Golden Boy nominee, the 20-year-old is easily one of the most exciting young stars in World football and even in the Premier League, with many touting him to be a potential Ballon d’Or winner someday. However, while a move to Real Madrid would do Rashford’s career a world of good, the starlet is still only 20 and should spend a few more years at Old Trafford before venturing towards a big money move.
