The history between the clubs:

Both Chelsea and Real Madrid are preparing ahead of their big clash in the coming week. Although tensions are at a peak at both ends, Chelsea fans may have something to boast about. The Blues have gone head-to-head against Real Madrid three times in the past. And Chelsea were victorious in two of them and held the other game to a draw. This is an impressive record for the Blues and they will surely try to keep the records in their favour.

In addition to the history that links the club through their past games. Both sides also have links through their players. Thibaut Courtois was a part of Chelsea for a long time. Though he was not always at Stamford Bridge, he was a long-term member of the club. However, the two-time PL-winning keeper chose to leave for Real Madrid in a dramatic way. In addition to Courtois, Eden Hazard is also currently at Real Madrid.

Hazard is still a favourite for a majority of Chelsea’s supporters. However, the Belgian winger has not been able to perform at his best due to back-to-back injuries. Mateo Kovacic is also a player that links the clubs. The Croatian came to Chelsea in a cash plus player deal from Real Madrid during the signing of Thibaut Courtois. Although he came in a loan deal, Chelsea soon made the deal permanent.

Another connection between the clubs is a family tie. The current Chelsea ball-stopper Edouard Mendy is the first cousin of Madrid’s left-back Ferland Mendy. With so many ties between the clubs, it will be an auspicious game to watch. Both sides are preparing for the big game. Whoever the winner may be, we spectators will surely get a fun game to watch.
