The Blues are reportedly preparing a mammoth move for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window, despite interest from Premier League rivals.
English trio of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all linked with a move for the central defender and Chelsea are planning to snatch Koulibaly before any suitors begin a bid for the highly rated star. The Senegalese international’s late heroics against Juventus brought Napoli within one point away from the Serie A leaders with four games remaining in the season. Koulibaly has been rock solid at the back for Maurizio Sarri and has shown excellent composure with his passing range on the ball.
Chelsea has had a tumultuous season so far and sits fifth in the Premier League, struggling to get a top 4 spot to secure next season’s Champions League qualification. The only hope of any silverware this term is in the FA Cup final against Manchester United next month. And with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte ready to strengthen his rear guard, Koulibaly has been identified as the prime target in the summer.
Koulibaly has drawn attention from several clubs across the continent due to his monstrous outings with Napoli pushing them close to the Serie A title. The 26-year-old is lined up to replace the inconsistent Antonio Rudiger in Chelsea’s rearguard. Koulibaly is under contract with Napoli till 2021 and Chelsea is luring Napoli with a bid of £65 million, which may be too flashy for the Italians to resist despite wanting to keep hold of their most valued prized asset.
And in this market, a bid of £65 million could just be too good for Napoli to resist, but it could be a bargain due to the qualities that Koulibaly possesses.
There is no way that Chelsea will not face competition from any other European suitors because Koulibaly has been on many clubs radar for quite a while. He is arguably one of the best defenders in the world at the moment and Chelsea may have to snap him up as soon as possible.
