For a while now, the Chelsea squad has been left astonished by the treatment given by Thomas Tuchel on their teammate, Tammy Abraham. The forward has been left out by the German coach on various occasions and an exit can be expected if things continue the same.
Tammy joined Chelsea as a kid and gained a name through his performances for the Youth side. His performance caught the attention of the team manager in 2015 and was promoted to train with the 1st team. He was also awarded his debut when he came off the bench in a match against Liverpool.
He made another appearance before being loaned out for the next season. The Chelsea forward put a promising display that year with Bristol City and he was a regular starter for them. He made 48 appearances and scored an impressive 26 goals to his name.
Because of his stellar performance, he was awarded Bristol City’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Top Goalscorer award. He also became the 1st player ever to earn all the 3 awards in the same season.
His first taste of a full season in the Premier League was on his second loan spell with Swansea City. With the increase in difficulty, he wasn’t able to score as he did at Bristol, but he managed 8 goals. His 3rd and final loan spell earned him a recall to his parent club. At Aston Villa, he was back to his old form and scored 26 goals in 40 games. He even broke multiple records there.
When he returned, Frank Lampard was at the helm which benefitted him more as Frank trusted the club’s academy. He returned the favor similarly by scoring 18 goals in his first full season with Chelsea.
Does Tammy Abraham have a future under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea?
It was all fine and good for the English striker under the club legend. He was also continuing his form this season, but it all changed after Lampard was sacked. Thomas Tuchel was the successor, under whom Tammy has been falling down the pecking order.
Tuchel started his life at Stamford Bridge brilliantly. Chelsea has been on an impressive run streak as they were undefeated for 14 matches. The German also broke the record for the best unbeaten start as a manager. However, it came to an abrupt end when they were defeated by West Brom at home with an even shocking scoreline of 5-2.
Tammy Abraham however, was neither a strong participant of that incredible run nor was he a part of the humiliating loss. The out-of-form Timo Werner has been preferred more than the Englishman. What has been more surprising is that he has not been named in the 18-man squad most of the time.
His exclusion from the squad has not only surprised the fans, but also his teammates and the player himself. However, the coach had an explanation for his decision which doesn’t justify much.
“In the end, we have to select 18 players for more or less 20 positions. So we have to leave three players out and Tammy was one of the three players. It’s nothing personal or nothing big. He has the same chance to play every three days like everybody else.” – Thomas Tuchel on why Tammy Abraham’s exclusion.
If there is no improvement in the relationship, Tammy might be ready for an exit in the coming summer. And many clubs are interested in his signature. Leicester City are one of them and they could benefit the most by landing him as a successor for their aging Jamie Vardy.
