Chelsea are looking forward to reinforcing their squad in the summer. The Blues did spend big last summer making seven new additions. However, with Thomas Tuchel replacing Frank Lampard, Chelsea are likely to see some changes soon.

Thomas Tuchel is keen to add more attacking strength to his squad. Hence, Chelsea have been eyeing various available options. They also did express their interest in Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland. However, reports also indicate that Chelsea are keen to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine international is parting ways with City this summer. Aguero is reaching the end of his contract with Manchester City at the end of June. Both the club and player acknowledge that there won’t be a contract renewal. Hence, multiple clubs have been keeping close tabs on the player.

Chelsea were also looking to lure in Aguero as a free agent. However, there is strong interest from La Liga giants FC Barcelona. Also, recent developments indicate that Barcelona may be multiple steps ahead of Chelsea in signing Aguero.

Barcelona closing in on Aguero:

TyC Sports has been bringing up speculation about Aguero’s future lately. The outlet were the ones to reveal Chelsea’s interest in the Argentine. However, they are now hinting that Barcelona might be the closest to sealing a deal with Sergio Aguero.

The 32-year-old striker has been an important part of the Premier League for a while now. He can undoubtedly be called a legend at Manchester City. Aguero was their hero, saving the day many times throughout his career at Etihad Stadium. He was also the man to help City win their first title with a last-minute wonder goal back in 2012.

However, it seems like his time in the Premier League is nearing an end. Barcelona are trying to regain their former glory under Ronald Koeman and Joan Laporta. The Catalans are hoping to add more attacking and defensive options in the summer. They find Sergio Aguero an ideal candidate to opt for.

Barcelona are hoping to sign Aguero in the summer on a free transfer. And are aiming to bolster their frontline with his arrival. They are also hoping to see Aguero and Lionel Messi connect and work some magic. With Aguero dreaming of playing beside Messi for a long time. A move to Nou Camp looks pretty imminent and we are likely to see him make the jump in the summer.

Chelsea need to fix their frontline:

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been playing at their best lately. And have also been giving their opponents a pretty tough time. However, Chelsea rarely look good enough to be called a title competitor. And this is mainly due to their weakness in the frontline.

Chelsea’s dream signing Timo Werner has not been performing at his best. Tuchel has played Kai Havertz in the CF role in the last few games. But still find it hard to find the back of the net in a consistent manner. Hence, the Blues are looking for a suitable player to sign this summer.

Aguero was a great candidate for the role considering his long history in PL. He has a total of 181 goals and 46 assists from 272 apps in the Premier League. Aguero has also won a 4 PL title with Manchester City and may win his fifth this year if they can keep the lead.

However, with Barcelona closing in it seems as though Chelsea may have to direct their attention elsewhere. Harry Kane, Paulo Dybala, and Erling Haaland are also on their shortlist. Chelsea are hoping to land a new striker in the summer. There is plenty of time ahead of the season closure and Chelsea will look to sort things out ahead of that.
