Hudson-Odoi is the latest in the star to emerge from the Chelsea Academy but the future of the Englishman is up in the air for quite some time now.
History suggests than Callum Hudson-Odoi might end up a superstar in some other European superclub. But Chelsea hope to dispell the recent onus that youth have no chance at the club. With Bayern desperate to land the youngster, it is up to the Blues to put the money where the mouth is and fend off the Bavarians. Now, it is reported that the club has finally made a decision.
“We’re interested in him as well”
Chelsea are hoping Callum Hudson-Odoi can be persuaded to remain at the club. This comes amid mounting interest from the German champions. Assistant manager Gianfranco Zola admitted yesterday that Bayern were interested in the forward but that they were keen on tying him down to a new deal.
Zola said, “I know Bayern is very interested in him, but we’re interested in him as well. We’ve proposed a contract for quite a while, so we’re waiting. We certainly value him as a player. It’s about patience. I believe he has a bright future with us. We would be happy to see an academy player come through but it is not easy for anyone.”
“He is still in a period that he is showing a lot of potential, but there are top players in front. He has a bright future with us, but he will have to learn sometimes. Now it is important to get better. Not about why he isn’t playing 20 games, he has to just get better.”
Player interested in switching clubs
Goal revealed that the talented teenager is now the subject of a £30 million bid from the Bundesliga giants. This is already the third approach by Bayern which is a signal of their intent. They are determined to spruce up their wingers, with Arjen Robben leaving at the end of the season.
The Sun are reporting that the player is also looking for a move away from London and take over from the departing Dutchman. The report goes on to say that the 18-year-old has already agreed terms with the Bundesliga champions and wants to make the switch as soon as possible. The lack of minutes under Maurizio Sarri is seen as a reason for the move.
Hudson-Odoi is an incredibly talented youngster with massive potential. With regular game time and a bit of guidance, he can become the superstar people say he is capable of becoming. Considering Maurizio Sarri’s rigid policy of using only a certain set of players, it is tough to see a future for the youngster at the Bridge. At Bayern, he can potentially be as important as Sancho is for Dortmund. I don’t see any reason for him to stay any longer at his boyhood club, waiting for his chance.
