Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has reportedly identified Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore as a potential signing this summer. The club is looking to make some additions to the UCL winning squad before the start of the next season.
Traore was unimpressive this season and registered only two goals and two assists in 37 Premier League appearances. The Spanish international has a value of £30 million in the current market.
Wolves are reportedly open to selling the right-winger. Traore still has 2 years remaining on his current contract with Wolves and is yet to sign an extension.
WHY CHELSEA CHASING TRAORE?
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to strengthen his options on Chelsea’s right flank and views Traore as a potential candidate. The other option is Inter Milan’s, Achraf Hakimi. Reece James provides good crosses, but Tuchel wants someone who can dribble more, exploit spaces with speed, and overall good offensive ability.
Though signing Traore could be a huge mistake. Chelsea only need a top-quality addition or two. Currently, the Wolves winger isn’t the top quality player Chelsea need, on the contrary, he’s been in a bad form and wouldn’t really improve the squad. Signing Traore would also block the path of academy talent Tino Livramento’s way into the first team.
Chelsea fans are not happy with the news, and some are not on board with Tuchel’s plan. While some believe Tuchel has a secret plan and will improve the winger into a baby oil monster, everyone will vary. But one thing all fans agree on is the market value. They all agree that £30 million will be too much, and Chelsea should only sign him if he comes cheap.
Meanwhile, Wolves are looking to offload 2-3 players during this summer transfer window. The main reason is to raise funds for their new manager Bruno Lage. The former Benfica manager was announced as the new head coach on Wednesday following Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure.
Wolves have made Ruben Neves available and are also willing to sell Traore. The 25-year-old has struggled to perform in the league this season and has put some disappointing stats. He scored only twice and also had just 2 assists in 37 appearances. With Traore on the down-low, it seems like Wolves need to cash in on him fast.
What should Chelsea do?
Chelsea is planning to strengthen 3 positions to challenge for the Premier League title next season. For a striker, they plan to go after Erling Haaland, midfield Neves, and Declan Rice from Wolves and West Ham. While in the right flank, it’s Traore and Inter’s Hakimi. While bringing in any of those would be a great signing, that’s not the case when it comes to Traore. The question we want Tuchel to answer is why Traore?
Chelsea should focus on bringing in Dortmund star Haaland and Inter’s Hakimi. With Inter in need of funds, it would be the perfect time to snap up Hakimi and increase the attacking potential from the right flank. Dortmund will be willing to sell Haaland for a high price before his £68 million release clause comes into effect next year.
