Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United target to leave for free in the summer

Stefan De Vrij will leave Lazio for free in the summer after both parties failed to come to an agreement

Liverpool has received a huge boost in their pursuit of Lazio’s Stefan De Vrij. The Italian club’s Sporting Director Igli Tare confirmed that the Dutchman would be parting ways with his current side in June. Both the parties had been locked in negotiations over a possible contract extension however, Lazio has now withdrawn its latest offer. De Vrij will be a free agent in June with Premier League heavyweights vying for his signatures. Along with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Barcelona, have been interested in the 26-year-old.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s clash against Verona, Tare told Mediaset Premium, “Lazio have withdrawn the proposal we made for a new contract to De Vrij.”

“We are withdrawing for reason that we will explain later on. It was a choice made after many months of negotiations, but there is also a limit to how things went.”

“He has been an exemplary professional and we thank him for that as well as what he’ll do until the end of the season. He gave a lot to the club, just as we gave a great deal to him, but our paths will divide in June.”

De Vrij will end his four-year association with Lazio having joined the Italian side in 2014 from Feyenoord. Liverpool has been the frontrunners for the centre-back as of now, with Sky reporting that the Reds had also submitted a bid for the Dutchman. However, with the latest revelation, the battle for his signature will heat up exponentially.

Author’s Take

De Vrij has been on the radar of several European heavyweights and now knowing how much he’ll cost (nothing!!!) in the summer they will make a move to acquire his signatures. The centre-back is quick on the ground and strong in the air, he will be a great addition to any club he opts for.
