Mental Fragility could cost Manchester United the title next term as well with Chelsea and Liverpool better equipped with pressure according to Jose Mourinho
Manchester United’s huge win over Guardiola’s men in the derby ensured that they secured the bragging rights last weekend. However, instead of building upon that success Mourinho’s men wilted under pressure and lost 1-0 to bottom-placed West Bromwich Albion. This has brought the mentality of United’s players under the spotlight.
Despite sitting 2nd in the Premier League, ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea, Mourinho has questioned his squad’s mental fortitude to cope with pressure. This has reportedly led the Portuguese to believe that both of these clubs stand a better chance of winning the Premier League title then United.
Manchester Evening News is reporting that Mourinho wants to see his team go a goal down just to see how they respond. While there is a belief will be considerably strengthened next season.
Liverpool could cap off an incredible season by winning their 6th European Trophy. Chelsea, on the other hand, has struggled this season but still retain the core squad that has won the Premier League in two of last four seasons.

During the week too, Mourinho called his players professionalism in question, accusing them of not giving it their all against West Brom. He said, “You see the difference of attitude of some players today compared with other weeks; relax, too stylish, one more touch, one more turn, one more flick. Masters of complication.”
Mourinho’s men next take to field against Tottenham in the semi-final of the FA Cup. A cup win would ensure that United does not finish trophyless and combined with a second place finish the season will be considered satisfactory overall.
Mourinho is a hard taskmaster who demands absolute commitment from his players. This season has been difficult for United at times, however, they have still managed to keep a hold of that second place. Questioning his players’ mentality might not be the best ploy Mourinho could have opted for. It’ll be interesting to see whether he tries and improve his squad’s mental fragility or just paper over it with some more big-name signings.
