Inter Milan will be at the centre of negotiations in this transfer window. The club has decided to sell off some of their star players to raise funds and pay off an £80 million debt. Chelsea among others clubs want to take advantage of the fact.
Achraf Hakimi is one of the players who will most probably leave the club. Hakimi was happy at Inter but after Conte’s departure, things changed. As of now PSG and Chelsea are the front runners in the race for Hakimi.
Hakimi who can play on either side of a defensive system has attracted a lot of attention. Thomas Tuchel who is big on the 3-4-2-1 formation would love to have a player like Hakimi at his disposal.
Hakimi has played in every Serie A game for Inter Milan. That certainly shows how much Antonio Conte trusted the player. He has 7 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances for the I Nerazzurri. These aren’t stats you would associate with a defensive player.
However such is Hakimi’s gameplay, he is very aggressive going forward and can easily slot in as a Right or Left Midfielder. PSG were supposedly the top candidates but now Chelsea too are also throwing their hat in the ring.
Chelsea have a slight advantage over PSG in certain areas. The club is willing to offer Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri a swap deal for Hakimi since Inter have rejected the initial bid from Chelsea.
Chelsea planning a swap deal including Christensen and Emerson:
Inter Milan have apparently rejected bids from Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea for Hakimi. According to reports from the Metro both PSG and Chelsea have tabled a €60m (£51.5m) offer for the Moroccan International.
However, Inter Milan are holding out on a price tag of €80m (£68.7m) for the 22-year-old. Inter know that they will have to pay off the debt by the end of the month. However, a swap deal will be beneficial for the club in terms of maintaining the balance in the squad.
Inter Milan are Champions of Italy and there are certain expectations from the club now. They could ask for Emerson or Christensen or maybe even both of them in return for Hakimi. But involving both players will reduce the fee by a lot which doesn’t work out for Inter.
The club may even decide to sell Hakimi if a better offer arrives from either of the two parties. In fact, Inter would prefer a high-priced bid for Hakimi to relieve some of the financial burdens on the club.
If we were to look at Chelsea’s offer from Inter’s perspective Christensen would surely be the better option. He has featured more regularly for Thomas Tuchel and his transfer value is close to £30 million which still ensures a decent payout for Inter Milan.
Chelsea also have the lure of being Champions League winners which could be a factor in Hakimi’s decision-making. PSG on the other hand are building a dynasty with Kylian Mbappe. It will be very interesting to see who emerges victorious in this race.
