As the dust is settling after the tension-filled days, it is now time to prepare ourselves for the return of the biggest event. With only 4 teams remaining in the Champions League, we are up for an incredible face-off. One fixture is between Chelsea and Real Madrid, in which, according to reports, The Blues have been handed a huge boost.
Surprisingly, these giants will also face each other for the first time since 1998. They have never played each other since, which makes this fixture more exciting. A few months ago, no one would have thought Chelsea to come this far.
However, here they are, defying the odds of a strong Atletico Madrid and this season’s underdog FC Porto to reach their first semi-finals since they lifted the prestigious trophy in 2012. And given their current form, there is nothing stopping them from repeating it.
Real Madrid will be finally relieved to be back where they belong. After winning the Champions League 3 years in a row, their journey hasn’t been that comfy. 2 seasons of bad luck later, they have finally reached the semi-finals. The more astounding thing is that they have easily reached this far despite the misfortunes they have been having related to the fitness of the players.
Los Blancos have closed a huge gap against their nearest neighbours in the race to the La Liga title. They are currently 2nd in the League, only separated by 3 points. After easily defeating Liverpool, they will be facing another English test when they face Chelsea.
Chelsea have been guided back into the top-4 by Thomas Tuchel. They are 4th in the Premier League. Before the clash with Madrid, they have a huge clash against West Ham that will decide their fate for a Champions League spot next season.
Real Madrid tested with injuries again before their clash with Chelsea:
The 13-times Champions League winners have been given more trouble this season. Despite everything, they are not giving up on their chances of grabbing silverware this season. They are truly alive in 2 competitions and they are both within grabs.
However, it has to be seen how they tackle the main issue at the moment, the injuries. According to reports, 6 of Real Madrid’s main players are likely to miss the clash. Sergio Ramos and Lucas Vazquez are certain to miss the match. Ramos had a calf injury recently and has only started recovering. Vazquez on the other hand will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering crucial ligament damage.
Another player guaranteed to miss the match is Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan has contracted the coronavirus which was confirmed by the club on Sunday. The rules state that one who is positive must be isolated for 10 days, which in Valverde’s case means till Wednesday.
The remaining 3 are doubtful. A crucial player in Zinedine Zidane’s squad, Ferlan Mendy is extremely doubtful. He had suffered a muscle injury and a return date has not been fixed. He was hoped to return after the match-up with Cadiz, however, his progress has not been promising with Chelsea’s return looking doubtful too.
The absence of Toni Kroos and Luca Modric can become a huge headache for Zidane. Despite their age, these maestros have been bossing that midfield. Zidane could always grab a positive result with them in the team.
However, they had missed their previous 2 fixtures with abductor and back issues respectively. And an appearance against Real Betis also looks slim as the coach would prefer having all hands on deck when they face Chelsea.
