Jorginho was super close to joining the Premier League champions but will now move to London and will link up with his Napoli boss, Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea had confirmed yesterday that Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties after two years in charge. And it’s almost universally known that Maurizio Sarri is set to take over. The Italian wanted Jorginho to join him at Stamford Bridge and his wished are set to be granted. The 26-year-old was set to play for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City only for Chelsea to hijack the deal in the dying stages.
Jorginho- Contract Details
The Brazilian- Italian will be pocketing a few extra grand after abandoning Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. The Evening Standard report Jorginho has been given a five-year contract worth £102,000-a-week. He was pictured leaving from the Italian airport, possibly on his way to London. Sky Sports have since revealed that he has landed in London to complete his move to Chelsea. The broadcasting giants also revealed that the Blues will be paying Napoli around £57m. It would make Jorginho the second most expensive layer in the club’s history, behind Alvaro Morata.

De Laurentiis on Jorginho choosing Chelsea over Manchester City
Napoli supremo Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that he had agreed on a deal for the player with Manchester City. It was the player’s decision to snub them for Chelsea.“These offers did not start from Chelsea, but from Manchester City. As a matter of fact, I will apologize to Khaldoon [Al Mubarak], because I found a deal with Khaldoon 15 days ago,” De Laurentiis said. “He called me, we spoke on the phone and I said, ‘ok, I don’t agree with you on A, B, C’. ‘Let’s solve the situation the two of us’, he told me. And we did it, we solved it.”
“However, if for personal reasons I won’t get into, the player prefers to live in London rather than in Manchester, I can understand him. If Chelsea pay him more, I can understand it too. So I can just apologize to Khaldoon. But it does not depend on me. If Jorginho moves to Chelsea, my agreement with Abramovich does not depend on Sarri becoming their next manager.”
Jorginho will be a quality addition to Chelsea. He is someone who can be classified as a ‘Deep-lying playmaker’. The fact that he has already worked under Sarri can only be a positive. Chelsea will have some midfield next season with Jorginho playing alongside N’golo Kante and possibly Cesc Fabregas.
