Thomas Tuchel was not that concerned about the goalkeeping options in his very first season with Chelsea. The German head coach directly falls for the French keeper Edouard Mendy for the service in front of the goal. Mendy switched his play from the Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on a transfer fee of £22 million.

The celebrated signing of Spanish young option Kepa Arrizabalaga diminished after the arrival of Mendy. The Senegalese international won a long-term contract till the summer of 2025 and Kepa’s future is still a question at Stamford Bridge.

Although Kepa is the second option for Tuchel and the latest transfer update from Stamford Bridge reports Chelsea’s search for a third keeper. The Blues are keen on the former Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero according to reports.

Thomas Tuchel is keen on Romero as the player is out of a contract in Old Trafford. He believes that the Argentine can be a good competition for Kepa and Mendy. Also, the track record of the keeper is impressive for the requirements of the West London for the position of the third man in front of the goal. (The Telegraph)

The Argentine replacement for Chelsea

Willy Caballero was the third keeper of Chelsea. The 39-year-old keeper joined the Blues in the summer of 2017 from Manchester City. But, he featured just 38 games for the club. He was the backup in front of the goal. (Transfermarkt)

Caballero started a few games after the Kepa Arrizabalaga issue under Maurizio Sarri. But the arrival of Mendy to the team replaced both options and the appointment of Tuchel cemented the position of the Senegalese international.

In Old Trafford, Sergio Romero accompanied the first keeper David de Gea for six years. The rise of young English keeper Dean Henderson has been a serious discussion for United and the management and fans love to see the homegrown player in front of the goal in the future.

The Situation of David de Gea is also problematic in Old Trafford. His contract expires in 2023 but, the Spanish international is out of favor in terms of playing minutes. He made 26 league appearances last season and Dean Henderson already attracted the eyes of the manager with his guest appearances.

Meanwhile, the end of the contract of Sergio Romero will add another keeper to the United squad. This will increase the competition for De Gea. Although Romero got more fire in his arms to bag another deal this summer. (DailyMail)

Romero proved himself to be a reliable backup to Dea Gea with 39 clean sheets in his 69 appearances for the club. The keeper already got demand from the Merseyside giants Everton in the past. But Manchester United management rejected the deal.

Chelsea are yet to make their big signing of the summer. Thomas Tuchel is working on the exits of few players and he will be making his first major move in the window very soon.

The Blues are tracking the hot pick of the transfer market, Erling Haaland. The Norwegian ace is a giant deal for them and requires a lot of calculations. Anyway, the Romero deal is a free task for the Blues and they are on it.
