Olivier Giroud and Willy Caballero sign a one-year extension with Chelsea.
In a recent turn of events Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has signed an extension with the Blues. Giroud joined from London rivals Arsenal and has 3 goals in 13 appearances for the Blues since then.
Although his performances haven’t been great the manager is impressed with the player’s work ethic. Chelsea was looking at various strikers as support for Abraham. But it looks like Lampard is gonna go with Abraham and Giroud for the one more season at least.
“Since I’ve been back at Chelsea, Olivier has been brilliant as a professional and as a man in general,” manager Frank Lampard said in a club statement.
Lampard believes that Giroud’s leadership and experience are something that would be useful for the Blues. He can provide guidance to Abraham as he is still young. And sometimes in key moments veterans come to your rescue.
Willy Caballero is also one of the two players to have penned down a new contract. The Argentine international joined Chelsea from Manchester City this season. Since then he has had 9 appearances in the Blues outfit.
Earlier there were rumors of Chelsea preparing a bid for AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma. But this probably puts an end to all of that. It looks like Lampard has faith in his goalkeepers right now. He will probably look to bolster other positions in a bid to efficiently manage the funds.
“I trust in Willy, he trains brilliantly and is a great professional. He stepped into the team earlier this year and showed his quality, and his experience is invaluable in the dressing room,” Lampard added.
