Chelsea is almost on the brink of sealing the Kai Havertz deal. But Frank Lampard seems to face certain issues before finalizing it.
After Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, the next big name for Chelsea is Kai Havertz. The German international is a very valuable asset eyed by top European clubs. But just like in the case of Werner, Chelsea are the only ones who are the closest in sealing a deal.
But as per fresh reports, Lampard seems to be delaying the deal due to some concerns. Marina Gravnoskia has told Lampard to offload some stars before he decides to make more spendings. This is why Lampard is stalling the confirmation of Havertz signing.
Lampard has asked till the final of the FA Cup to make a decision. The reason being that he does not want to affect the morale of his stars before the big game. If he is to list a leaving star in his lineup, he does not want it to affect his game. Hence, Lampard is choosing to make a proper say only after the game against Arsenal.
Marina Granovskaia is known to be fully supportive of Frank’s plans. But with the pandemic in tow and the weekly wages in mind. Some stars need to make an exit to fund new ones. The Havertz deal itself seems to be a big deal. After spending around £80m on Ziyech and Werner. Chelsea is set to flush away £90m for the German as per the Guardian.
Lampard is likely to sell some men
Chelsea has hints of some men they choose to depart with. Lampard wants to seal the deal with Havertz. So does he want to make a defensive signing this summer. Hence, he already has some players in mind who will part ways.
Though Rudiger and Zouma are doing okay in guarding his backline. There seem to be issues that raise concern. The Blues are the club with most goals conceded in the PL top 10. This means he needs to think about a better defensive option.
Thus, Lampard is thinking of shipping away Christensen and Zouma for a central defender. Also, he is thinking of selling either Marcos Alonso or Emerson Palmieri. Both the stars have not been able to light it up for Lampard. Hence, either of the two also risks an exit. Palmieri has been getting interested in Juventus and Inter Milan as well. So an exit looks possible soon.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has been more than a disappointment lately. Even his teammates seem to have lost their trust in him. Lampard will also need to sign a new keeper as Caballero isn’t always an option. Michy Batshuayi has also lost a spot in Lampard’s pecking order lately. With some work left to do, Lampard will have to part ways with some of these stars.
Chelsea are targeting some defensive options
Frank Lampard has been working great to fix his frontline. The next issue comes on his defense. He needs a dependable left-back and a good center-back as well. Though Alonso has been doing a good job, Lampard needs a bit more.
Ben Chilwell is his top option for the LB issue. But Leicester City won’t be letting go of him easily. They are looking for a fee in the range of £80m for their ace. But with the star also keen on making an exit, the club may drop the fee slightly. Lampard is also keeping an eye on Tagliafico of Ajax. The Argentine has also been looking great lately and has an impressive play style.
Frank is also keen on signing a goalkeeper. Kepa has not been able to stop the balls as he should. Which has led to Lampard losing his patience. Hence, he is looking for alternatives to bring in this summer. Andre Onana looks to be a reliable option. He is also considering making a move for Declan Rice. Should Jorginho leave to join Sarri, Lampard will need a man to play defensively in the midfield.
If all the signings come through, Lampard will have some of the best men in the squad. This will make them a title competitive club and can easily pocket the title. Chelsea will be back with full power in the coming season.
