Chelsea have all but confirmed that Antonio Conte will be leaving the club next summer and the club has started shortlisting players to strengthen key positions in their squad.
The Blues have struggled this season and after being humiliated by Barcelona in the Champions League, things have gone from bad to worse with Chelsea struggling to make the top four in the Premier League. That could mean that they will have no Champions League football next season and thus gives them an even harder job to bring in brand new stars to Stamford Bridge.
But despite that potential resitriction, the club and the Chelsea board have shortlisted three potential positions which they need to improve next summer, according to reports from the Metro. The club has decided that they need a new central midfielder, an all-around midfielder, another winger and a brand new center back if they want to do much better next season. That’s exactly why they have targeted Nice’s Jean Michael Seri, after the Ivory Coast international failed to complete a move to Barcelona.
However, despite that, Seri has still been targeted by the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and many others, with the Premier League sides considering on triggering his meagre £35 million realse clause. But with Tiemoue Bakayoko struggling to establish himself in the Premier League, the Chelsea board have upped the priority to bring in Seri.
They have also shortlisted Napoli’s Jorginho, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal to replace the former Monaco star. Meanwhile with former Barcelona star Pedro’s contract running down, the Spaniard is already 31 years old, the club has started to search for a replacement targeting multiple wingers.
Again Napoli stars Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens make the cut, along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey and Julian Brandt, Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva. However, with the club also looking at serious interest from Real Madrid for both Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, Chelsea are trying their level best to get them to re-sign for the Bridge.
But at the same time have also shortlisted Bernd Leno, Jack Butland and Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Courtois, and Paulo Dybala, Leroy Sane, and Antoine Griezmann to replace Eden Hazard.
Chelsea are going to have a torrid time trying to attract the best in the world, unless they qualify for the Champions League. Given the kind of players they have been linked with and rumoured to have shortlisted, no-one of the rumoured stars would leave without the promise of top European football. It may be a cliché but they need to be in the best tournaments to attract the best in the world.
