In an interview, Premier League club Chelsea discussed their star defender Kurt Zouma. The Blues rejected multiple approaches for their star defender during the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard, the Blues boss opens up on the rejected bids for Kurt Zouma. The French professional is taking great pleasure to the second chance given at Chelsea and is determined to help Lampard become successful at Stamford bridge.

The 25-year-old has been a major part of Lampard’s squad this season, having played nine games in the Premier League. The centre back has just rested once during September for the trip to Brighton.

The Blues legend is playing smart by completely reforming his side since his side got thrashed with a 4-0 by Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season.

The French centre back has spent the last two seasons on loan at Stoke and Everton respectively. He has spent much of the summer being linked with the return to Everton. It was also expected that the centre back would stay at Goodison Park on a permanent deal.

As per the reports, the toffees also made a bid for Chelsea’s star defender but the offer didn’t meet Chelsea’s valuation. Zouma has been in an excellent form for Chelsea this season.

Lampard admitted he did turn away offers for his star defender, as he praised Zouma’s partnership with Fikayo Tomori.

Lampard said,

He has been fantastic. There was a belief that I had in Kurt because there was interest in the summer after we all know he had a very good loan at Everton last year.”

But I believed in him as I believed in Tomori – that is why I made the decisions I made pre-season in terms of where we were going to look defensively.

“It has been nice to get some stability, albeit because of injuries, between him and Fikayo in the last games. It has been good to get them playing together to see the little bond they are getting on and off the pitch.”

He added,

It is a nice little story and it must continue, I suppose.”

Zouma is expected to be a part of Chelsea’s squad to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup tonight at Stamford bridge [7.45 pm KO].

This face-off will be the first time the two sides will meet since United’s opening day win on Lampard’s side.

Author’s take:

After spending the whole campaign at Everton Kurt Zouma fought hard to get out of the shadow he was in. The centre back is enjoying the limelight under Frank Lampard is one of the key players of Chelsea squad.
