Thomas Tuchel’ Chelsea are hoping to make some major changes in the summer. After splashing a fortune last summer under Frank Lampard. Reports claim that Tuchel is also likely to spend big in the upcoming transfer window. The German boss is reportedly keen to bolster Chelsea’s defense in the summer.
Chelsea has been reportedly eyeing a number of defensive recruits lately. RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano has been a top priority for the Blues. However, they are not alone in the race to sign the Frenchman. European champions Bayern Munich are also keen to sign the defender.
But Chelsea are not ready to go easy and will look to give a tough time for their rivals. However, Chelsea are also reportedly eyeing Bayern defender Niklas Sule. The 25-year-old’s career at Munich stumbled when he picked up an ACL injury last season. Hence, Sule’s outings this season were very limited.
But despite the players’ inability to secure regular first-team appearances. Chelsea believes that signing the big man will help bolster their defense. Hence, the Blues are keeping a close watch on Niklas Sule, according to Bild. But Dayot Upamecano is Chelsea’s top priority in the upcoming transfer window.
Chelsea can offer more game-time:
Even though Chelsea are keen to sign Upamecano from Leipzig. A number of Europe’s top clubs are tailing the Frenchman and it will be a very tough race to win. Hence, Chelsea will also be eyeing other credible options ahead of the summer window.
Niklas Sule is a quality defender and Tuchel believes he will be a great wall for the Blues. There has been interest for the German from the Premier League before too. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did try to lure in the center-back to Manchester United a while ago. But Bayern Munich was reluctant to let go of the defender then. However, after his injury troubles, the Bavarians have not been giving him enough game-time.
With Bayern keen to sign Upamecano in the summer, the competition for a spot in the lineup will be tough. In addition to this Hansi Flick is also looking to extend the contract of Jerome Boateng. This will have a diverse effect on Sule’s chances of cracking into the top of the pecking order. Hence, Sule has been linked to make a jump away from the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea, on the other hand, can guarantee Sule more game-time. This will taunt the player as he wishes to spend his career’s prime on the pitch rather than on the bench. The Blues will have a solid defence if they can seal a deal with Sule. Partnering him up with Silva will help Chelsea form an unbreakable backline.
Bayern risk the future of their defence:
Bayern Munich may soon face a defensive dilemma if they continue on their current path. The Bavarian chief’s failure to tie down David Alaba will soon lead to his exit. The Austrian has reportedly made an agreement with Real Madrid to join the Spanish side in the summer. Chelsea was also keen to sign him but was unable to act faster than Madrid.
Hansi Flick was keen to have Alaba at Bayern. But the indolence of the Bayern hierarchy led him to lose a key player. Things are similar in the case of Jerome Boateng as well. Flick wants the club to extend Boateng’s stay, but Bayern are not showing any progress in the deal. This can result in the gaffer losing his cool with the hierarchy, as they don’t value his opinions.
But on the other hand, signing Jerome will deny the opportunity of the younger players. Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez have very minimal game-time. This is urging the players to make a jump away from Bayern. This will have a diverse effect on the Munich defence in the future. Hence, Bayern Munich has a dilemma at hand now.
Chelsea are looking to use this issue of Bayern to their advantage. The west London side has their eyes on a couple of defenders who are linked with Bayern. The dilemma Bayern face will push them to sacrifice one of their key defenders. Chelsea will use the opening to make a deal with either of the players. This will help Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea bolster their defense further.
