In football teams often look back on their past glory to motivate themselves. Both Manchester United and Chelsea have a good history. Though the Red Devils are richer when it comes to history.
Currently, both teams are not even close to where they want to be. Chelsea and Manchester United earlier used to battle it out for the Premier League title. However, now they are challenging for the top four positions.
The gap between them and Manchester City is hardly getting any shorter. While Liverpool with their players back from injury could again become a force to reckon with.
Chelsea and Manchester United still have good cash to spend. With the aim to challenge for the title, both of them will need to spend on their current squads. Defence is an area in which both need to invest.
Chelsea vs Manchester United for Serie A defender
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Florentina will look to sell Nikola Milenkovic. The Serbian international has now spent nearly four years in Florence. He is physically strong and 6’5 tall as well.
Milenkovic’s current contract expires in 2022. It implies that only this summer, Florentina would be able to get good money for him. There are no signs that he will sign a new contract extension now.
Manchester United has previously tried to sign him. The Red Devils are still looking for a partner for Harry Maguire. The report from Tuttomercatoweb has claimed that the Red Devils have been tracking him for months now.
The same report has also stated that Chelsea will also try him in the summer. Currently, Andreas Christensen is enjoying a renaissance under Tuchel. While Rudiger is a player reborn as well. Thiago Silva is already 36 years old now.
12th Man Opinion
It might be not a good decision for Manchester United to sign him. Since signing for Manchester United, Harry Maguire has been often criticized for his slow pace. At times speedy players have managed to get the better of him.
Nikola Milenkovic is a similar type of player. The Serbian’s best quality is his physical size and strength. It is likely that he will able to adjust to the physicality of the Premier League. However, against quick players, he might struggle. Thus he won’t be an ideal partner for Maguire.
As for Chelsea, they already have Fikayo Tomori on the team. The Englishman has already established himself as a key player for AC Milan. The youngster has still untapped potential and he should be given a chance under Tuchel.
Though financially Chelsea are doing very well. However, they will still need to invest wisely. Spending money on a player who can be replaced by an academy player is not wise. It would be better if the Blues also don’t sign him.
