Chelsea and Juventus in talks for a swap deal for a defender in the summer

Chelsea and Juventus both under their new managers are in a phase of transition. Both of them seem to have a good relationship as well. The Blues allowed Juve to sign Maurizo Sarri and before that Juan Cuadrado joined them from Chelsea. There seems to be a possibility that both of them might again do some business.

According to Italian news outfit Calciomercato, the Old Lady and Londoners could do a swap deal for their left-backs. Two Brazil-born left backs will move in the opposite direction if the deal is agreed. Emerson from Chelsea will move to Allianz Stadium and Alex Sandro will move to Stamford Bridge.

Emerson joined the Blues in the winter transfer window of 2018 from AS Roma. Initially, he challenged Marcos Alonso but the latter again regained his place. On the other hand, Alex Sandro joined Juve from Porto and he has been an integral part of their dominance in Serie A.

Why a swap deal is being preferred by Chelsea and Juventus?

Why a swap deal is being preffered by Chelsea and Juventus ?

The coronavirus pandemic has created financial stress in the football world. This is because there is no matchday income. Thus even the top clubs across Europe have decided to be more cautious in their transfer approach.

They don’t want to spend big money rather the focus is on making smart investments. The current swap deal between Chelsea and Juventus is something on similar lines. Both clubs are not keen to spend big money and a swap deal will save both of them some cash.

Why these two players are mentioned in the potential swap deal?

This season hasn’t been great for both the players. The game time has been limited for both of them but for different reasons. Emerson was given the cold treatment by Frank Lampard as Ben Chilwell was signed. The arrival of Thomas Tuchel hasn’t improved things for the former Roma left-back. Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell both are ahead of him in the starting lineup.

As for Alex Sandro, he has been injured many times this season. Before this season he was regularly playing for the Bianconeri. It has also affected his performances as he hasn’t been at his best this season. Recently it was reported by Corriere Dello Sport that Juve are looking to sell Sandro this summer.

Thomas Tuchel is said to be a big fan of the player. During Antonio Conte’s time, the Blues were keen to sign him as well. While Juventus despite Emerson’s limited game time want to bring him back to Itlay. The Bianconeri have been previously linked with a move to sign the Italian.

Comparison and the possibility of the deal

It won’t fair to compare the two left-backs based solely on this season. The 2018/19 season should be the parameter because that was Emerson’s best season as a player at Chelsea. While Sando had been performing consistently well before this season.

In the 2018/19 season, Alex Sandro made 1.2 interceptions per game and he was dribbled past 0.6 times per game. Like Emerson, he made 1.1 interceptions per game and he was dribbled past 0.6 times. In tha attacking, department Sandro made 1.1 key passes per game and he made 1 dribble per game. While Emerson made 0.5 key passes per game and he made 1.4 dribbles per game. It should also be considered that Sandro played more games than Emerson.

It was only this season that Sandro hasn’t performed well apart from that he has performed very well for the Old Lady. While Emerson has been largely a squad rotation player. Thus Chelsea are getting a better deal out of the swap.

12th Man Opinion

As for Chelsea fans are concerned they would welcome the sign of Alex Sandro at the club. They would also hope that Ben Chiwell can improve his game with his arrival. Juventus fans won’t be very happy with the deal perhaps they would think that Sandro should be given another chance.
