Manchester United is ready to make their first signing of the summer transfer window and it will be Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred.
The Red Devils will be buzzing at the prospect of a new midfield arrival at the club this summer. With Marouane Fellaini unwilling to sign a contract extension with the club and Michael Carrick already having played his last competitive game for Manchester United, the English giants will be running short of players in the midfield department ahead of next season.
However, United manager Jose Mourinho has prepared for his first arrival at the club this season in the form of 25-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. The Brazilian will add some much-needed dynamism in the centre of the pitch and has been the subject of interest for many clubs across the continent.
Fred featured as a substitute for Brazil in the 2-0 win over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday and according to Sky Sports is now making the short trip from Merseyside to Manchester in order to complete a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United’s local neighbours Manchester City were also heavily linked with a move for Fred in the January transfer window but it seems that the Red half of Manchester are prepared to beat their noisy counterparts to secure Fred’s services.
Fred is set to complete a medical on Monday and was spotted at Manchester earlier today. United should finalize the move soon enough this week. Fred has made over 150 appearances for the Ukranian club Shakhtar Donetsk and is part of the World Cup squad under Brazil head coach Tite.
I am quite eager to see how Fred fits in at Manchester United because with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic beside him in midfield, he could be the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle at Old Trafford for Jose Mourinho.
