Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to go head to head in the chase of Bayern Munich’s star man. Have a look at what’s cooking below!
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have dealt with each other on several occasions in the past few seasons over deals. The Whites and the Bavarians share a very professional and respected relationship when it comes to deals. Both the clubs have sold and purchased players from each other and Real Madrid could soon sign another from their UEFA Champions League rivals.
Thiago Alcantara has emerged as a target for Los Blancos. The 27 year old was earlier on Barcelona’s books and left the club in 2013 following Pep Guardiola to Munich. In his time at Barcelona, the Spaniard won a total of two La LIga titles and a Champions League. He was Pep’s loyal servant and also won five Bundesliga titles in a row in Germany. He won three with Pep and one each with Carlo Ancelotti and Jupp Heynckes. After being a star in Germany, the midfielder has now been linked with a move back to Spain wanting new challenges.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. Julen Lopetegui is a big fan of the playmaking midfielder, who he managed while at Spain’s national team. Alcantara is also an admirer of Lopetegui’s target. The 51-year-old manager is keen on getting the Spanish player as a replacement for Mateo Kovacic who went to Chelsea on loan. Also, Luka Modric is ageing and Madrid need to replace him.
There were rumours about the Croatian Golden Ball’s future with Real Madrid, however, he has stayed put and expected to sign a new contract with the Whites that will see him earn higher amid interest from Inter Milan.
Real Madrid would have signed Thiago Alcantara as a panic buy. It would make absolutely no sense. The Whites have a very good midfield anyway and signing Alcantara just for a player who will eventually come back a year later is a poor choice.
