BREAKING: Antoine Griezmann reveals why he rejected Barcelona

Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann was heavily linked with a summer move to La Liga champions Barcelona, however, the Frenchman ended up staying at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Griezmann has been a highly rated player since his Real Sociedad days. In 2014, Atletico Madrid got ahead of everyone else by luring him to the club for a fee of £27 million, which now seems to be a steal. Since his arrival at the Madrid club, he has been an integral part of Diego Simeone’s plans.

As he entered the peak of his career, his game started hitting its peak as well and that caused big guns from around Europe to be interested in him. One such club is Atletico’s Premier League rivals Barcelona. Griezmann to Barcelona was a much talked about rumour in Spain throughout the last season and it looked destined to happen in the summer. However, the French World Cup winner decided to snub the Blaugrana and stay at the Metropolitano.

In a recent interview with French media outlet L’Equipe, the superstar has revealed why he chose to remain with Los Rojiblancos.

It’s like when you get love at home, you’re not going to go anywhere else. At the club, they’ve done everything to make me feel good, including efforts to sign important players and create a great team. I feel like the base, or the most important piece of the puzzle“, Griezmann stated.

The player also added that it is difficult to say no to clubs like Barcelona but he feels at home at Atletico. Griezmann won the UEFA Europa League with his club last season, before winning the FIFA World Cup in the summer.

Author’s take:

Griezmann is one of the best players in the world at the moment and him staying at Atletico is necessary for La Liga not to become a two-way battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
