Blow for Liverpool and Spurs as Konsa agrees to a new deal with Villa

Many clubs in the Premier League are in need of a good defensive addition to their teams. Over the years everyone has realized that a solid defensive foundation is often the cornerstone for success.

Look at Manchester City, for instance, this season their defense has led the way as they have conceded just 21 goals. Manchester United and Leicester at 2nd and 3rd respectively have conceded 32 goals each and therein lies the difference.

Chelsea have begun their renaissance under Thomas Tuchel. But the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur still have to find a solution to their defensive problems.

There is one man who was of particular interest to both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. That man in Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa. If you’re looking for defenders finding one who plays well consistently within the league is always an added bonus.

Liverpool and Spurs target Ezri Konsa will be extending his stay at Aston Villa.
Liverpool and Spurs target Ezri Konsa will be extending his stay at Aston Villa.

Such is the case with Ezri Konsa. The Englishman made his move to Aston Villa from Brentford in 2019 for £11.97m. Since moving he has grown into the first team and now is a starter for Dean Smith.

Liverpool and Spurs were both very interested in Konsa’s availability but both clubs have been dealt a major blow. Ezri Konsa and Villa have come to terms with a new contract and talks of a transfer are out of the window.

Konsa agrees to a new 5 year deal with Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have done fairly well under Dean Smith this season, they have a good set of players in almost all positions and there are hopes of a top-half finish for the club. Ezri Konsa has a major role in all of that.

The defender has featured in 26 out of the 28 Premier League games the club has played and even has 2 goals to his name. He is forming a good partnership with Tyrone Mings in Villa’s defense.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Konsa is delighted about his new contract with Villa. “It’s a great feeling to know the club really believes in you and has trust in you.

“It’s something I’ve been working towards since I got here, proving myself and playing games week in, week out.” “We have great chemistry at the back, including [goalkeeper] Emiliano Martinez. For me personally, it’s been a very good season“.

Villa are at the 10th spot in the league table with a game in hand. The club has a chance to push into contention for the top 6 places. It will be crucial for Villa to build on their performances and have a strong finish to the season.

Aston Villa made a historic comeback and the end of the last season to avoid relegation. Dean Smith will be hoping for a similar kind of effort from his team but it will be key for someone like Jack Grealish to step up and lead the way.
