Ben Stokes recently left for England owing to a broken finger. He will be missing out from the Rajasthan Royals squad from the rest of the IPL. The team management had given him a hearty farewell as well.
In the opening match of Rajasthan Royals against the Punjab Kings, Ben Stokes injured his finger while fielding. He attempted to take the catch of ferocious batsman, Chris Gayle and injured him in the process. He immediately had to leave the field. Ben Stokes had just bowled one over then and had conceeded 12 runs.
Ben Stokes also came to bat later on but was dismissed by Mohammad Shami. Upon further investigation, it was confirmed that he had broken his finger. This was a huge shock for Rajasthan Royals as he had to miss out on the rest of the season.
Rajasthan Royals was not at all pleased to let go off such a valuable asset as Ben Stokes and gifted him a shirt with the image of his dad in it. This was such a heartwarming gesture by the team and Ben Stokes loved it.
Joffra Archer shocks Rajasthan Royals even further
The management also faced another blow as their speedster Joffra Archer also confirmed his absence from the entire IPL. Initially, it was said that due to injury he would be missing out only the first half of the season. However, in a surprising turn of events, the team would be devoid of the services of this valuable player as well.
Having won only 1 out of 4 matches, Rajasthan Royals find themselves at the bottom of the points table. To add on to the woes, Liam Livingstone also left for his country owing to bio-bubble fatigue.
Ben Stokes gets his replacement finally
With such acute shortage of overseas player in the team, Rajasthan Royals approached South African batsman, Rassie Van Der Dussen. And the good news is that as per reports he has given his affirmation for the same.
This report came from one of the trusted South African outlet in SA cricket magazine. Hence this is being considered as true. The report read as per follows :
“Rassie van der Dussen’s fitness test could take place on Monday, and he should then officially link up with the Royals soon after should all go well. He will effectively slot in as a replacement for the injured Ben Stokes, and will join fellow Proteas Chris Morris and David Miller at the IPL team.”
Rassie Van Der Dussen would be now travelling to India after undergoing a fitness test. He has signed up with the franchise already. This Protea right handed batsman would be a huge asset to the side struggling with overseas options.
The next encounter of Rajasthan Royals would be against the Kolkata Knight Riders tomorrow. It would be missing out on the services of van Der Dussen in initial matches. However, this news would definitely serve as a morale boost for the team.
The remainder of matches for the Rajasthan Royals would be extremely challenging, considering the form of other teams in the tournament. However, Rajasthan Royals is known to climb up from such deteriorating conditions quite bravely in the past. It would be interesting to see the new team balance and how the combination works out to create wonders.
