The coronavirus cases inside the IPL bubble forced BCCI to make a move on Tuesday. KKR players namely Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier tested positive for coronavirus.
The cricket fraternity saw came across shocking news today. Delhi Capitals’ spinner Amit Mishra and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha contracted the virus infection.
Earlier, three members from Chennai Super Kings also tested positive for coronavirus pandemic. They are non-playing members of CSK such as the club CEO Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a bus cleaner.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Indian Premier League Governing Council were well aware of rising coronavirus cases inside the Indian bubble.
As a result, BCCI and IPL GC held a meeting today and then they suspended the ongoing edition of the IPL. On top of that, the Indian cricket body put safety as the first priority.
As per the reports, BCCI had ignored IPL governing council’s proposal to shift the tournament to UAE. Last year, BCCI successfully hosted the IPL in the UAE without any fuss.
When will IPL 2021 resume?
There has been no confirmation as to when the IPL 2021 would resume considering the current situation. Meanwhile, the BCCI is looking at the September window to finish the tournament. So far, 29 of the 60 matches came to a close.
Since half of the tournament came to a close already, BCCI requires only a small window to complete the tournament. “A September window is being considered. By then the England-India series would be over. The foreign players would be ready for the T20 World Cup,” a franchise official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
