It’s now in the open that Barcelona are looking for Griezmann in the summer transfers. But to fit him in the team they might sell their superstar striker.
The Spanish outlet Diario Gol has made a sensational claim just before the summer transfer season. It has said that Barcelona are willing to listen to offers for Luis Suarez this summer. For the first time since Suarez’s arrival from Liverpool after the 2014 World Cup, the Catalans are now prepared to sell the Uruguay striker.
Antoine Griezmann is expected to join Barcelona from LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid this summer, despite interest from Premier League giants Manchester United. And it is claimed that the French forward’s arrival will force Suarez out of the Camp Nou.
This decision might not amuse Lionel Messi, who is a close friend of Suarez, but Barca’s board believe paying €100m-plus for Griezmann means he must not sit on the bench. Suarez has looked slightly off-color this season with minor injuries not helping his cause. The Uruguayan ace has scored 151 goals and 86 assists in 196 appearances in a Barcelona shirt, but he is one of the older players in the Spanish giants’ squad.
Griezmann signed a new contract at Atletico Madrid last summer, but his release clause was halved from £175m down to £87million. He has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United , but it appears Barcelona have come first in the race for the French star.
For the time being, there are no firm offers for the Uruguay striker, but Europe’s biggest clubs will be alerted to the striker’s availability. Chelsea and Manchester City are early contenders for Suarez’s signature. The forward’s agent is Pere Guardiola, the brother of City manager Pep Guardiola.
Therefore it’d be interesting to see how things unfold in the future for this star striker. His performance in the World Cup for Uruguay might shape his future.
Author’s Take :
Luis Suarez has been one of the best strikers in recent times. Even when he is not at his best this season, he has scored 20 goals, third after Messi and Ronaldo. This speaks volumes about the class of the man. But age is not by his side. He’s at the point in his career where players become prone to injuries. That’s why Barcelona are going for Griezmann and may have to sell one of their greatest strikers in the process.
