The Blaugrana are said to sell this stellar forward in order to make room for the incoming Antoine Griezmann
Barcelona are heavily touted to land Atletico Madrid starlet Antoine Griezmann in the summer. But the problem is the side’s well-stocked roster. The Blaugrana are packed to the rafters with players, and one more seems to be on his way.
It seems they’ve, however, found a solution. Reports suggest Barcelona are ready to sell striker Luis Suarez to accommodate the Frenchman, who seems to have one leg in the Catalan capital already. He rejected a move to Old Trafford to join Manchester United last year, while Griezmann’s release clause was also halved from £175 million to £87 million, further fueling rumors of Barcelona move.
But his arrival is now set to jeopardize the future of another star in Suarez, as he’s set to head through the exit door. The Uruguayan had earlier commented on Griezmann’s transfer saga and how he would be welcomed at the club. But, little did he know that it would force him out instead.
Radio Cataluna reported the 31-year old’s possible departure of all attacking players, assessing other options before jumping to the conclusion. Lionel Messi is out of the question, while Ousmane Dembele’s season was largely curtailed due to recurring injuries. Philippe Coutinho has only arrived on a big money move, and in the recent weeks, has shown signs of settling in. That leaves Suarez as the sacrificial lamb.
El Pistolero has had 4 successful seasons with the Cules, lifting 11 trophies in the process. He’s also struck 151 times in 196 appearances in all competitions, picking up the Golden Boot in 2016. So having proved himself and helping his side to every possible trophy, Barcelona are now weighing up options for him. There aren’t any suitors at the moment, but a player like Suarez would never be short of one when it’s time.
Griezmann is a terrific forward, no less. But there’s simply no comparing him with someone like Suarez. The Uruguayan promises way more goals than the Frenchman, and also boasts better consistency. Selling him to accommodate Griezmann would be nothing but a counter-productive move.
