The rumors of Antoine Griezmann moving to Barcelona has been flooding the internet ever since Neymar left the Catalan giants, however, now it finally looks like it could happen soon.
Neymar broke a lot of Barcelona hearts when he departed for an outrageous sum of money to Ligue 1 giants PSG. But while there have been reports of the Brazilian wanting a move back, unhappiness in France and various others, Barcelona it seems have moved on. The Catalan giants spent all the Neymar blood money on the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Yerry Mina, Arthur Melo, Marcus McGuane and many others.
This also allowed the club to play a different style of football that not only helped Lionel Messi reach a new high but also produce and showcase quality from every other player. The likes of Jordi Alaba, Paulinho, Ivan Rakitic and even Marc-Andre Ter Stegen have all had brilliant seasons for Barcelona. The La Liga champs are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s five leagues but they still lack a certain panache to their line-up.
With former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho’s arrival, the club had a marquee Brazilian signing to replace Neymar, if not his goals. That’s why Valverde and company have targeted Antoine Griezmann as their top target next summer, with the Frenchman leading the list. While the 27-year-old Griezmann did struggle and endure a complicated start to the season, he has like Cristiano Ronaldo been in stunning form in 2018, scoring 19 goals in both the La Liga and the Europa League, with 11 goals in his last twelve La Liga appearances.
However, recently Atletico Madrid has made various claims and even reported Barcelona for the way they have gone about trying to bring Griezmann to the Camp Nou. Tensions have increased and while Barcelona has maintained a friendly-ish relationship with the other Madrid side, reports from Sport English have revealed that the La Liga Champions are willing to go one step further.

Barcelona already knows that Antoine Griezmann is very keen on a move to Camp Nou, and they also know that Atletico Madrid knows that. Not only that, the report from Sport English further adds that the 27-year-old Frenchman has blocked off a move to any other side. Which is why, Barcelona are willing to pay extra to Atletico Madrid, over and above the €100 million release clause.
This could take the transfer fee in and around the €140 million mark, with Barcelona wanting to make sure that Atletico Madrid is happy and that in the process they get a proven goalscorer to replace not only Neymar but also an aging Luis Suarez.
While Antoine Griezmann did struggle in the early stages of the La Liga, the Frenchman has since shrugged off his issues and has been flourishing so far scoring 27 goals and providing a further 15 assists in 47 appearances all competitions. A valuable addition to any side, and a player who has proven himself, time after time.
