Barcelona has been looking for an Andres Iniesta replacement for a long time, and the La Liga giants are going to go all out the superstar.
The supreme maestro Andres Iniesta will always be remembered for his incredible part in one of international football’s greatest teams and for his role in making Barcelona the modern day giant that it is. He combined with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi, David Villa and many others have been crucial to the La Liga giant’s dominance over the Spanish league in recent times.
Filling that gap, on the other hand, could be a task too much for Barcelona, despite the Catalan giants bringing in Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo to ease the loss. However, that said manager Ernesto Valverde is certainly not happy and has decided to splurge a little further, targeting the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Marco Verratti, Steven N’Zonzi, Frenkie De Jong and many others as potential choices.
However, their move for Ajax star Frenkie De Jong has come to a screeching halt despite reports that the Catalan giants have moved closer in negotiations. But with the Eredivisie giants doing well in the Champions League qualification rounds, any potential move has been delayed with the 21-year-old star interested in testing himself at the highest level of football.
But with earlier reports that Ajax wasn’t going to sell, Barcelona turned their eyes towards Paul Pogba amid rumours that the World Cup winner was very interested in a move. However, that too hasn’t gone to plan with Manchester United rejecting their only offer so far, which has made Barcelona rethink the idea of signing De Jong.
The Ajax star has been exceptional for the Eredivisie side and according to Spanish publication Sport, the Catalan giants will bid for the Dutch star soon. It further adds that a deal somewhere around 50 million will be the transfer fee, although there is a chance that Ajax could increase it.
This is after Sporting director Frank Overmars went on to say “Not even for an insane amount. They should play about 40 games for Ajax first in 2018-19,“ Overmars added. “De Jong to Barcelona? He is not for sale. And I have communicated this to all parties involved. It’s the same for Matthijs. Clubs that are interested are free to come back next year.”
Frenkie de Jong is a wonderful player and given that he has graduated from Ajax’s world-renowned academy, the 21-year-old should turn into a world-class Barcelona-esque player. Exactly someone the La Liga giants need as a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta and given that De Jong’s only 21 years old, time is certainly on his side.
