Paris star reveals he’s happy he rejected the La Liga giants last summer

Barcelona and Real Madrid’s top target reveals that he’s happy that he rejected the La Liga giants last season.

The Ligue 1 star had been linked with a move away from the French giants last season but nothing ever materialized with his parent club, putting up a brick wall even before negotiations started for the star. However, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among others very interested in his signature, the 25-year-old has been one of the Ligue 1 Champions’ standout players last season and even this season, despite being called a spoilt child by critics.

But with Barcelona looking for a replacement for Xavi Hernandez and Real Madrid looking to replace the 32-year-old Luka Modric, both the La Liga giants have shortlisted PSG star Marco Verratti as a potential replacement. With PSG getting knocked out at the hands of Barcelona in the Champions League last season, many expected a summer of change for the French giants, with the likes of Verratti, Adrien Rabiot, Marquinhos and many others linked with a move away.

However, PSG flexed their financial muscle and went on to bring in Kylian Mbappe and Neymar for incredible sums of money, changing the course of transfer values for years to come. But while many expected PSG star Marco Verratti to leave the club, a move never materialized with the Parisians rejecting bids as high as 100 million.

And the Italian international has revealed that he is very happy that he turned down the Catalan giants last season. In an interview with Canal+, Verratti went on to say “My priority has always been to stay in Paris, but with a good project (…) I am very happy with the choice I made and I am even more convinced today I really want to stay here.”

The Catalan giants have been chasing Verratti for quite some time now and it’s no surprise why. The diminutive Italian midfielder is one of the best in the world at his position and has slowly flourished at PSG ever since his move from Pescara in 2012.

Author’s take:

Not just a superb passer of the ball, the 25-year-old has specialized in dictating play from deep and has also been called one of the most intelligent players around. With a pass-accuracy of over 90 percent this season alone, Marco Verratti has managed to fly under the radar thanks to the performances of Edison Cavani, Neymar, and youngster Kylian Mbappe.
