With Ernesto Valverde signaling the possibility of one more signing this season, Rafinha Alcantara wants that signing to be his brother, Thiago Alcantara.
Despite Barcelona’s hugely productive transfer window, the Catalans are still in the market for one more signing. After Iniesta and Paulinho’s departure from the club, Valverde is eager to bring in a player, who can provide stability in the midfield. And when it comes to midfield, signing back a La Masia product is almost always the best deal.
Ex-Barcelona player and Bayern star, Thiago, has been linked with a move back to Catalonia for more than a month. But despite Bayern’s rumored green signal, Barcelona are yet to table an official bid for the midfielder. Thiago’s brother, Rafinha has now commented on the situation and has asked the club to resign the Spaniard.
“I want to see Thiago play for Barcelona again,” Rafinha told El Mundo Deportivo. “He would fit into the style of play with this team perfectly and he is familiar with many (from the national team and former Barca days),”
Rafinha, on the other hands, is still unsure about his own future this season. The Brazilian spent last six months of 2017-18 at Inter before returning to Barcelona. “My own future? I honestly do not know, there is a lot of talks but I am not thinking about it. That is for other people to focus on. I want to play football, whether that is here or somewhere else.” Said Thiago’s younger brother.
Thiago left Barcelona in 2013 and re-joined Pep Guardiola at the Bavarian club. The midfielder has been an integral part of Bayern’s set up since then, winning five successive Bundesliga titles. He has also become a regular starter for Spain’s national squad based on his fine performances in Germany. But the midfielder made just 19 Bundesliga appearances last season, as he was sparingly used in the crowded Bayern midfield.

The 27-year old’s return would reunite him with the likes of Messi, Pique, and Busquets, who played together to win every single trophy under Pep Guardiola.
It will be great to see Thiago returning to the Camp Nou after establishing himself, as he left Barcelona in search of more game time. And as Valverde wants to sign one more midfielder, there are very few better options than Thiago. The Spaniard is made for Barca’s game and will take no time to adjust in the Catalan capital.
