Barcelona have been dealt a major blow with midfielder Arturo Vidal admitting that he wants to leave.
Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal shed light on his future plans in a recent interview with ESPN. The Chilean reportedly wants a move away from the Camp Nou at the end of the season.
Rumors of the 33-year-old leaving the club have been circulating around for quite some time. The midfielder currently has no shortage of offers with several top European clubs interested in signing him.
Inter Miami, Boca Juniors as well as a couple of Chinese clubs have presented contract offers to the Chilean. Inter Milan, Manchester United and Newcastle United have also expressed interest in him.
Vidal reportedly wants a move to Argentine club Boca Juniors.
Vidal however has admitted that he dreams of playing for Boca Juniors in the near future. The 33-year-old revealed that playing for the South American club would be like a dream coming true for him.
Vidal also admitted that he is happy with the club’s current form and would cherish the idea of playing for them. “We all know what Boca is in Argentina. The players who have been there,” Vidal said.
“I have never had the opportunity to play in the Bombonera. Neither with Colo Colo nor with another team. I’ve always wanted to feel what they say it feels like there. We all know how much of winners they are at Boca.”
“It would be a dream to play there. However, right now, I’m calm,” he added. Vidal’s international teammate Gary Medel played for Boca between 2009 and 2011.
The 33-year-old admits they had had talks over the prospect of joining the Argentine club. “Gary knows me very well, we’re still talking. I always ask him how he felt when he scored against River [Plate],” he further revealed.
Vidal’s admission could come as a massive shock for Barcelona.
Vidal joined Barcelona in the summer of 2018 and tasted success in his debut campaign winning the 2018-19 La Liga title. The Chilean’s contract at the Catalan club runs until 2021.
Barcelona have already closed in on a €80M deal for midfielder Arthur Melo. Vidal’s future plans however could put the Catalans in a spot of bother as far as business is concerned.
The Chilean is already 33 years old and already has his plans for his future sorted. This might be Barca’s last shot at selling the midfielder for a decent price before his contract runs out in 2021.
Barcelona however don’t look like they are letting the Chilean leave anytime soon. Vidal might have to wait another year and a half before realizing his dream of playing for the Argentine club.
