La Blaugrana goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen reportedly wants a move away from the Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Ever since Marc Andre Ter Stegen joined Barcelona back in 2014, the German has been superb for the Spanish champions cementing his place as the number one goalkeeper. The 26-year-old has thwarted off any competition for a starting berth which has left second choice keeper Jasper Cillessen with very rare game time this season.
According to news outlet RAC1, the Dutch shot-stopper wants to play more frequently and is willing to leave the Catalonian club in order for a starting role. Cillessen made just one appearance each in the La Liga this whole term as well as the Champions League. And he is now tired of being the back up to Ter Stegen informing the closest of his friends that he wants out of the Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona may play hardball with other clubs regarding Cillessen’s sale this summer. At the moment, the 29-year-old has a release clause of €60 million and the Spanish outfit will look to gain a massive profit from his sale if any negotiations between other European clubs take place.
Cillessen joined Barcelona for a fee of €16 million in 2016 but has also admitted that he will not push for a move if the club chooses not to sell him in the summer. Premier League side’s Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea are monitoring his progress and keeping tabs on Cillessen as the trio of English clubs is desperate to land a top-class keeper.
Although, Barcelona have confirmed so far that no concrete offers for Cillessen have taken place so far.
I think that Barcelona needs to bring in a solid back up who can ease some pressure off Ter Stegen because a massive European club needs a strong number two as well. If Barcelona wants to let go of Cillessen this transfer window then they should bring in some re-enforcements.
