The Blaugrana forward is touted to leave following the impending arrival of Antoine Griezman, but has poured cold water over all such rumours
With Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, striker Luis Suarez is believed to make way for him and head through the exit door. The squad is already packed to the rafters, and the arrival of another player means someone has to give in.
That player emerged to be the Uruguayan, who’s believed to vacate his place for accommodate the Frenchman. The speculations are so rife, that it has certainly vexed the player, who finally came on record to clear the air.
As the prospect of the World Cup nears ever closer, Suarez nailed colours to the mast and revealed where he is currently set his sights upon. He said, “I’m focused on the World Cup and I’ve not noticed rumors about my leaving Barcelona.
“Any player dreams of being able to play and live a World Cup, and it’s already happened to me in South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. I arrive with other expectations, with other players and other sensations and am motivated to go far at the World Cup.”
The former Liverpool hitman played a crucial role in the domestic double that the Azulgrana picked up in the recently concluded season. However, with Russian showpiece up next, he’s set to play a vital role in Celeste‘s hopes of making it big, having made an early exit last time around.
Uruguay have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Even though it appears to be a clear path towards the last 16 for Uruguay, the 31-year old is taking nothing for granted. “The games are played at a very high level but I have matured a lot. I have experience and I understand how the World Cup is. However, my style of play is the same as it always has been. I can’t change that.”
Even if Griezmann were to arrive, Suarez may not necessarily be the one to be given the boot. In fact, it would be an opportunity for Valverde to forge a new attacking triumvirate with Messi, Suarez and Griezmann.
