La Liga supergiants FC Barcelona have expressed their interest in signing Atletico Madrid academy prospect Alejandro Iturbe.
The 14-year-old, dubbed as the next Jan Oblak, has been so impressive that he was even given the opportunity to train with Los Rojiblancos senior team. It is worth noting that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid already have two of the best number ones in their sides in Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Jan Oblak respectively.
Interest from big clubs
The Catalan side is not the first one to be attracted by the youngster’s talents. Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Real Madrid had set their eyes on Iturbe back in 2016. However, they could not get a deal done because of the non-aggression pact between the two Madrid clubs.
Apart from interest within Spain, the prodigy has also caught the attention of clubs from England. It is reported that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur made contact with the player’s representatives multiple times.
Although there is heavy demand for the goalkeeper, the rumours claim that Iturbe has a contract with Atletico until 2022. Laws deny the Spanish club from signing a professional contract with the player until he turns 16. However, they have signed a deal in advance.
The fact that Diego Simeone made him train with the senior team at such a young age shows how much the Argentine manager values the youngster. Iturbe was also named as the best goalkeeper in the recent Torcaf championship, a youth level football tournament in Spain.
It is not often that youth-level goalkeepers get so much attention, but when they do there is some serious talent involved. By the looks of it, Alejandro Iturbe seems to be a player who could live up to the hype. Whether he stays with Atletico or moves to the Camp Nou, the youngster will be having the right atmosphere to develop into a top class goalkeeper.
