Barcelona set to offer new contract to Man United target

Both Manchester United and Juventus are keen to add more steel to it’s defense. With winter transfer market around the corner, Barcelona are set to offer this star a new contract to fend off Manchester United’s interest.

Manchester United are in dire need of quality defensive players. The Red Devils have conceded more goals this season then they conceded last season. Jose is keen to lure star defenders at Old Trafford and it seems they were angling a move for this Nou Camp. However now it seems Barcelona are set to offer a new deal to Manchester United target.

Barcelona are ready to renew Jordi Alba’s contract. Manchester United and Juventus have reportedly made contact with representatives of Jordi Alba with a view to a future transfer.  The Blaugrana have delayed the talks to extend the contract of the Spain international. Alba’s current contract runs out in 2020. Barcelona will offer a contract to Alba. The Nou Camp giants are worried about the interest coming from the Premier League.

Since joining Barcelona in 2012, the former Valencia man has established himself as one of the best full-backs in world football. Manager Ernesto Valverde doesn’t have another natural option for left-back in the squad and wants Alba to stay at Nou Camp. Lucas Digne left Barcelona for Everton and there’s no natural second fiddle to Alba.

Alba’s linkup during attacking has been lethal. Jordi Alba has been directly involved in more goals than any other defender in the Champions League this season. Manchester United are in need of a left back. England international Luke Shaw is injury prone and has been starting in all games of United since last month.

Despite signing new contract, Jose is still looking for a left back. Valencia hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since his fall out with Jose. Ashley Young has been deployed as a replacement of Valencia but has struggled to make up ground.

Author’s take:

It would be tough to see Alba leaving Barcelona for Manchester United. The Spain international has no intention of leaving Nou Camp. Also with the likes of Lagot and Shaw, it will tough to for Alba to guarantee first team action. Shaw recently signed a contract and Diego Lagot was signed this season so it would be a huge loss for United if they decide to sell any one of them next season.
