Replacing Andres Iniesta is a very hard task but Barcelona is still in the race for their top target despite rumours of them saying no to a move.
The supreme maestro Andres Iniesta will always be remembered for his incredible part in one of international football’s greatest teams and for his role in making Barcelona the modern day giant that it is. He combined with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi, David Villa and many others have been crucial to the La Liga giant’s dominance over the Spanish league in recent times.
Filling that gap on the other hand, could be a task too much for Barcelona, despite the Catalan giants bringing in Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo to ease the loss. However, that said manager Ernesto Valverde is certainly not happy and has decided to splurge a little further, targeting the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Miralem Pjanic, Marco Verratti, Paul Pogba Steven N’Zonzi and many others as potential choices. But their first and main target is the PSG stars.
However, with moves for both Rabiot and Verratti going no-where, Barcelona have turned their eyes towards Paul Pogba in the last few weeks. The Frenchman has been in fine form for his country and was part of the World Cup winning side, with Manchester United fans hoping he can transfer that form for the Red Devils. But recent rumours and gossip has revealed that Pogba does want to leave as he is unhappy with Mourinho.
And this has given a boost to Barcelona chance’s of signing the 25-year-old, and with the La Liga window closing on the 31st of August, the La Liga giants don’t have too much time. However, with Metro.com reporting that Pogba will stay at Old Trafford, Mundo Deportivo has further added that Barcelona will not give up their chase for the Manchester United star.
Their latest bid for the £90 million man was a £50 million cash offer plus the services of Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina, which given Pogba’s current status is a laughable offer. However, given that both Gomes and Mina have since departed the club, Barcelona will have to make an offer of at least somewhere around the fee that United paid three years ago.
Paul Pogba can someday win the Ballon d’Or, the Frenchman does have both the skill-set and the talent to do it. But whether he has the drive and even that desire too, that still hasn’t been shown by Pogba, at least in his Manchester United career. But while the 25-year-old isn’t the best midfielder in the world, he’s certainly among them and just needs consistency to become the best in the world.
However, if the reports are right, then maybe he will have to find a way to do it elsewhere and Barcelona is nothing if not a great side.
