Barcelona Midfielder Extends New Contract

La Blaugrana midfield sensation Riqui Puig has extended his contract with the La Liga champions with a massive release clause.

Puig is one of the most talented footballers of the younger generation and has been deemed to step into Lionel Messi’s boots at the Camp Nou when the Argentine talisman steps down from the club. The 18-year-old has been a target for many clubs since quite a while despite not making a single appearance for Barcelona’s senior team.

Inside News-

English giants Tottenham Hotspur were interested in bringing Puig to North London this summer transfer window whose future at the Camp Nou was in some speculation. However, Puig signed a new deal with the Spanish outfit which keeps him stay put at Barcelona until 2021 which ended any rumors of a move this summer.

Puig officially extended his contract with Barcelona and now has a release clause of €100 million, which should fend off any potential suitors for a while. The La Masia product was the key member for the Catalonian club as they lifted the UEFA Youth League title this season. Puig scored in the semi-final clash against Manchester City that ended 5-4 and then put in a domineering performance in the final against West London side Chelsea.

Speaking to Barca TV, Puig said that he was extremely happy to play at the club and wants to fulfill his dream of training with Lionel Messi. “If you are from Barcelona you don’t want to go to any other club and instead want to succeed here. You want to stay here and not listen to offers from elsewhere. You want to stay at the best club, where all of us ‘Cules’ are happy, here, the people love you. You have the support of the fans, from your teammates, the board, and because of that support I’m very happy with how they’ve treated me.”

Author’s Take-

I think that Puig will go on to become a Barcelona great in the future because he is extremely determined and passionate about playing for this club. This was a massive blow to Tottenham as Spurs are now eager to challenge for trophies in the coming seasons.
