The Blaugrana have been pursuing this Bayern star for some time now, but the task is made easier as he’s ready to leave upon arrival of the new manager
Barcelona are understood to be attempting to bring back former player Thiago Alcantara back to the Camp Nou. The Spaniard, who’s on a contract with Bayern Munich until 2020, recently revealed that he’s ready to leave as Niko Kovac is all set to succeed Jupp Heynckes at the helm next season.
This has piqued interests in the Catalan capital as their job is made easier. The player is said to demand a fee of €50 million before he puts the pen to the paper. But the given the revamp process set to be undertaken in the summer at the club, they would only oblige.
Thiago has become one of the best midfielders since the switch in 2013. He’s gone on to become a star in the centre of Bayern’s set-up and continues to rule the roost. This season, he’s played another big role in clinching the Bundesliga and has struck 7 times and assisted another twice in all competitions.
But what has kept him truly hitting the throttle are recurring injuries, as the Spaniard has missed as many as 112 games in 5 years with the Bavarians. Regardless, Thiago remains a hot prospect and can prove to be a menace on his day. Plus, he’s only 27 and still has many more years left in him before truly slowing down to ol’ father time.
Thiago would definitely be a great addition to the team. He understands the club, the culture, the playing style well, having represented Barcelona before. But now, he returns as an improved player and someone with ample experience at the elite level. So the Barca, after all, may not have to spend much to find someone to fill Iniesta’s boots.
