Shocking: Barcelona to get Bundesliga star back at Camp Nou

5 years after letting Thiago Alcantara go, Barcelona board insists on getting back the current Bayern star in this transfer window.

With the departure of club legend Andres Iniesta to Japan, the La Liga giants Barcelona are looking to get the stability back in midfield. It seemed like their winter buy, Phillipe Coutinho would replace the legend but the Camp Nou chiefs want someone dependable at that all-important position. This seems to be the reason why they are looking to bring back Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara back to Spain.

Thiago spent more than eight years with Barcelona and he is still close to several of the club’s biggest stars, such as Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto. And According to Sport(Spanish), several Barcelona players are pleading with management and president Josep Maria Bartomeu to bring Thiago back to Camp Nou.

The 27-year-old Spaniard isn’t amused with the proceedings of the club and is looking to feature in incoming Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac’s plans. On the other hand, the Bundesliga champions will entertain offers this summer. The report states that they’ll expect to receive €80 million for the midfielder recruited during the reign of Pep Guardiola in 2013, though that fee could well be negotiated down to €50 million.

Thiago, himself, openly spoke about Barcelona earlier in the week and conceded that “anything can happen.” Reading between the lines, one might summarise that discussions about this transfer could already be underway. Thiago’s contract with Bayern Munich runs through 2021, and he is still only 27 years old with plenty of football ahead of him.

Therefore, it’d be interesting to see if Thiago wants to win La Liga again or continue the glory days with Bayern.

Author’s Take :

Thiago Alcantara would be the best possible replacement for Andres Iniesta if he is to return to Barcelona. His absence in Bayern would leave the German champions perplexed with no suitable replacement so they need to try to keep him, at least till his contract expires in 2021. He was brilliant for Bayern under Jupp Heynckes so the change of boss could be a reason for his potential departure.
