La Blaugrana’s sporting director Eric Abidal has opened up on the rumours that Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard could be joining Barcelona.
After Chelsea had a rather poor Premier League campaign last term, the Blues did not manage to finish in the top 4; this meant that Chelsea will not be eligible to play Champions League football for the upcoming season. However, the West London club now faces a difficult task of keeping hold of their star player at Stamford Bridge this summer with club talisman Eden Hazard at the top of many top clubs’ wish list.
The Belgian star was one of Chelsea’s standout players last term but has also attracted significant interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. While the Los Blancos eye Hazard as a possible heir to Cristiano Ronaldo, the Catalonians view the 27-year-old as a replacement for Andres Iniesta. However, the La Liga champions have recently been linked with a move for Hazard in order to lure him to the Camp Nou and Eric Abidal has opened up on the situation.
Hazard To Barcelona A Possibility?
Abidal was appointed as Barcelona’s sporting director last month but indicated that he will remain silent on a player who does not don the Barcelona jersey. And speaking at the press conference of Arthur Melo’s presentation, former France left –back was asked about Hazard to Barcelona to which he replied, “We do not talk about players that aren’t ours. This question has to be directed to the player, as, when we sign someone, you will be the first to know when we are.”
The 39-year-old added that he is happy with Arthur’s arrival at Barcelona and explained how the club plans its transfers, “We are very happy with Arthur’s arrival and it is true that we are working [on other transfers], The communication that you will get will be made only when the player is ours. First, we analyze and respect the squad we have, as we are a different team than last year and there are decisions to be made. Arthur is here for the moment and the rest is an internal job.”
Abidal may just have confirmed that Barcelona will not be taking the initiative to sign Hazard this summer and it must be the Belgian captain himself who must ask for a transfer to Barcelona if he wants one.
