The Catalans have agreed personal terms and club agreements about the midfielder’s transfer. Know more about the story!
Barcelona haven’t been very convincing in this season’s transfer window. Clement Lenglet, Arthur Melo and Malcom were signed by the club keeping the future in mind, while Arturo Vidal was also signed from Bayern Munich. However, the club has made little effort to replace Andres Iniesta who has left a major void.
The Blaugranes are now a step closer to Frankie De Jong’s transfer having reached an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam over his transfer. The principle agreed is that the youngster will transfer to Barcelona if the Dutch giants fail to qualify for this season’s Champions League, with the qualification rounds still going on.
Ajax has one step into the final qualifying round courtesy of a 2-2 away draw at Standard Liege that has helped them with two goals. Advancing through a result in the Amsterdam Arena will see them face either of Dynamo Kyiv or Slavia Praha in the final round. It’s a tie in which Ajax will be favourites.
With Sergio Busquets getting old and Iniesta also departing the club, the Catalans believe that now is the correct time to buy the Dutch player. De Jong’s services are expected to cost Barcelona a fee of 50 million euros. Personal terms between Barcelona and De Jong have already been agreed with the transfer depends on the continental qualification.
Barcelona fans will have their fingers crossed about Ajax Amsterdam being prematurely eliminated. Meanwhile, Ajax fans will be hoping otherwise. The Catalans have now a void of two midfielders to fill in after the exits of Andres Iniesta to Japan and Andre Gomes to Everton.
The Catalans will be very happy should their Dutch colleagues be eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League qualifying phase. However, that looks very unlikely at the moment and Barcelona might not have De Jong’s services this summer.
