Barcelona President Delivers Massive Transfer Update Ahead Of New Season

La Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu has stated that the club will spend on new recruits this summer but expects youngsters to get more responsible.

Barcelona is preparing big for next season as they plan to end their fierce rivals’ dominance in the Champions League by dethroning the Los Blancos. The Catalonian club finished the season with a domestic double of the La Liga title and the Copa Del Rey but the shock elimination from the Champions League was what hurt them the most.

Apart from the recent rumours surrounding Clement Lenglet from Sevilla, one player that is constantly linked to arriving at the Camp Nou is Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman has been a long-term target for Barcelona and on July 1st his release clause will drop from €200 million to half of that amount. The 27-year-old forward has kept football fans in anticipation after stating that he will reveal his future before the World Cup.

Griezmann Has Been In Phenomenal Form This Season.

However, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that there will be new signings in this summer transfer window but youngsters will be given a more definitive role at the club.

Bartomeu message for Barcelona fans-

Speaking to ESPN, the 55-year-old assured that there will be new signings like every season, “Of course, next season’s [new] project always means there will be new faces, I’m sure, and other faces will leave the club as well. That’s what happens every summer.”

Bartomeu went on to add that he would like to see the younger and now more experienced players at the club stepping up to their tasks, We always try to bring in more talent, a better talent so that the team is better than the previous season. I cannot name any names because I think negotiations should be private, but, of course, there are different positions where we can do better next season. The club is always trying to develop talent through La Masia. Of course, this talent has to come up and explode, if possible, in the [first] team.”

Author’s Take-

I think that Barcelona will spend big in this transfer window with their prime target being Griezmann. Lenglet will be a massive bonus because he has improved immensely in the Spanish League. However, Barcelona always produces some gems from La Masia and they will hope that these youngsters bring their game to the next level.
