Barcelona outlaw Philippe Coutinho may move out of Camp Nou as the club is thinking of giving him up in an exchange deal.
Coutinho has had a below-par mark for Barcelona. Since he wore the Blaugrana colors in 2018, he failed to shine with the hype. His £142 million price tag did not do justice with his inconsistent performances. Coutinho looked to replace Neymar and become the next big thing in Barcelona. The statistics and on-pitch display proved otherwise.
Philippe’s dream move to Camp Nou turned out as his nightmare. The squad tactics limited him in a supporting role. He was no longer given position freedom. In the 2018/19 season, Coutinho featured only 12 times. He did score 3 goals in his appearances but he ultimately faced the ax. This led to his move to Bayern on loan.
His performances at Bayern were better than at Barca. However, it clearly showed that he was no more the star man he was at Liverpool.
Coutinho was just a playmaker out of career options. Even the Bavarians did not trigger his sell-on clause to buy him this summer.
Hence, Coutinho will return to Camp Nou at the end of the season. But Barca is looking to utilize him in some other way. The Catalunya outfit is weighing him as a bait in a swap plus money deal. Barcelona is in search for a defensive midfielder. With Vidal and Busquets aging broadly, they are in search of a replacement.
Ndombele to replace Arthur Melo at Camp Nou?
Barcelona has put Tottenham’s Ndombele as one of their transfer targets this season. He was Spurs’ record signing for £63 million. According to Mirror, Barca shortlisted the French midfielder since his Lyon days.
His record move to the North-London outfit is a success but his fitness is a concern. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho did criticize him for his lack of physical conditions.
Recently a rumor widespread about a spat between Ndombele and Mourinho during training. On Monday, both a heated exchange caused a supposed rift. Barcelona realizes this right moment to bid for the player as per Independent.
Recently Arthur Melo has been heavily linked to Juventus. Reports suggest that both the clubs have come to a conclusion. The fee is approximately £72 million. It is wise for Barca to bring in a defensive barrier like Ndombele. On the other hand, they might think twice before engaging Coutinho in the swap deal.
Barcelona should also recognize that Coutinho is worth more than Ndombele. Hence, it will be wise enough to avoid additional cash in the transfer. Moreover, the coronavirus pandemic has already damaged the economy of every top European club.
