Folarin Balogun has agreed to a new four-year deal with Arsenal.
Folarin Balogun is another example of an extremely talented player rising out of Arsenal’s rank under Mikel Arteta. There has been a lot of criticism for the Spaniard given where Arsenal are in the league. Their only hope for Europe now is the UEFA Europa League trophy.
This now truly becomes a test for Arsenal’s young squad. Since Mikel Arteta’s arrival, the club is trying to rebuild its ranks which has tainted its performance. The Gunners know the size and the importance of the task ahead of them. Their reaction will define whether Mikel Arteta is a good judge of character or not.
Whichever way the story goes there is one solid positive for Arsenal. They have an extremely talented bunch of young players. That is the one area where Mikel Arteta has done an excellent job, which is why it is even more crucial that he remains there to finish what he has started.
Arsenal has a lot of young players either on loan or patiently waiting for their chance in the first team. Saka and Tierney’s run with the team has been inspirational for Arsenal’s younger players. Folarin Bolarun is also one of Arsenal’s younger starlets.
The 19-year-old was being rumored to leave because of a lack of game time. But in a surprise turn of events, he has agreed to a contract extension with the Gunners. Apparently, there is a four-year deal for Balogun which is complete but the club still has to give an official notification.
This could indicate a major reshuffle in Arsenal’s attack. Arsenal has a lot of options for their number 9 position, some might say perhaps too many options. The club may look to offload some in a bid to raise funds for summer signings
A £47.7 million spin off on the table for the Gunners?
Balogun is someone who plays regularly for Arsenal’s youth team. He has 12 goals to his name for the Under 21 side. He also came off the bench for Arsenal in the Europa League and managed to grab a couple of goals in his window.
However, he still awaits his first Premier League start. The striker might have more chances next season as there is a possibility of Nketiah and Lacazette leaving the club. According to reports from the Standard West Ham are exploring a way to sign Eddie Nketiah.
The youngster has played well for Arsenal but is a little frustrated with his lack of game time. West Ham have been in great form this season and need someone alongside Antonio as he too faces a lot of injury issues.
A move can be possible as Nketiah will enter the last year of his contract and there have been no talks of an extension yet. His current transfer value is around £16.2m. This could end up being a very good deal for all parties involved.
Arsenal will have a financial boost, Nketiah gets his precious game time and West Ham gets a good solid forward. Alexander Lacazette may also part ways with the club. The striker will turn 30 this year and there can be a reluctance among the management to offer him a new deal.
Lacazette himself might look for European glory elsewhere if Arsenal fails to win the trophy this time out. His current market is close to £31.5million. These two deals might help Arsenal’s transfer plans however they will be taking a big risk as there would be no proper replacement should an injury happen to Aubameyang.
