Ballon d'Or 2021 is back as it is the most esteemed individual award in Football. Players from the top five leagues feature in this year's nominees.

Ballon d’Or 2021: “Ballon d’Or” the world’s most esteemed individual award in football is back. They just released their 30 nominees via Twitter posts. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski are frontrunners to bag this year’s award.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have 11 Ballon d’Ors together. Ronaldo has five to his name whereas Messi has six. Manchester City and Chelsea are the only two clubs that feature five names from their squad.

Ballon d’Or 2021: Top 5 players to watch out for

1. Robert Lewandowski

The Polish striker is arguably in the best form of his life at Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old was an integral part of Bayern’s eleven last year as they won the Bundesliga. He has seven goals from seven games this season.

2. Jorginho

What a year this player has had so far. 2021 was like the golden time in the career of the Italian midfielder. He won the Champions League with Chelsea after they beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final. After that, he also won the Euro Cup with Italy.

3. N’Golo Kante

Again a midfielder who is very underrated and gets less appreciation for his game. N’Golo Kante was again a vital part of Chelsea’s Champions League-winning eleven.

4. Lionel Messi

As witnessed, the records speak for the man himself. Lionel Messi, who now plays for the famous Paris Saint-Germain team. Lionel came to PSG after leading Barcelona to another La Liga title.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo

Last but not the least, Cristiano Ronaldo. The player who now holds many records to his name is back at Old Trafford. The Portuguese captain was with Juventus till last season. He has started this season on a high as he has five goals from six games.

Goalkeepers

Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG is the only nominee in the Goalkeeper category.

Defenders

Serie A features three players this season. The duo from Italy, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini from Juventus and Simon Kjaer from AC Milan. Two players feature from Premier League this season. Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea and Ruben Dias from Man City.

Midfielders

Six players from the Premier League feature in this category. N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, and Jorginho from Chelsea. Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden from Man City. Bruno Fernandes from Man United. Two players from La Liga in the form of Pedri who plays for Barcelona and Luka Modric for Real Madrid. Serie A player Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan.

Forwards

In this category, players from the top five league feature. Six players are from Premier League. Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling from City. Harry Kane from Tottenham, Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, and Cristiano Ronaldo from Man United. Two from Bundesliga in the form Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

Ligue 1 features three players and all of them play for PSG. Their respected names are Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.
