Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant displayed his captaincy skills in a tight encounter against Rajasthan Royals. The seventh IPL game of the 2021 season was no short of entertainment as the game saw another nail-biting finish towards the end.
Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson was lucky enough to win the toss and he chose to bowl in the Wankhede conditions. Delhi Capitals, who came in to bat first couldn’t find a perfect partnership in the middle from the start. Both the openers, Prithvi Shaw and Dhawan have gone cheaply, who performed well against Chennai Super Kings in the first game.
While Ajinkya Rahane got his chance early in the game to provide stability and avoid the fall of wickets. But, the former Rajasthan Royals skipper was dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat for just eight runs. Although, skipper Rishabh Pant delivered a classic inning to recover his side from demolition.
Likes of Lalit Yadav, Chris Woakes, and Tom Curren played their part with cameos to bring the total to 147 by the end of 20 overs. Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers for the Royals with his impressive spell which includes three wickets by giving away 15 runs.
Rishabh Pant advise to Avesh Khan worked to dismiss Miller:
Rajasthan Royals had a very slow start to their innings with a small target in front of them. However, the Rajasthani side also started losing wickets one after the other. Chris Woakes and Rabada took the early wickets to clean up the top order of the Royals. However, David Miller steadied the ship with his brilliance knock.
The South African got on to a slow fifty from forty balls, which was considerably good with Royals situation. Miller switched gear and accelerated by taking on Avesh Khan, who came on to bowl the 16th over of the game. The left-handed batsmen slapped Avesh Khan for two consecutive sixes on leg side in the over.
However, Rishabh Pant kept his composure and walked down to Avesh Khan for a talk. The skipper kept his arm over the pacer’s shoulders and calmed him down. However, the new plan did work for the Capitals, which was fuller delivery to the off-stump for the South African batsmen. And, Miller mistimed his shot and went straight in to the hands of Lalit Yadav.
